Meet Tracy - Shop & Dispatch Bird
Ever wondered what goes on day-to-day behind the scenes here at birdsnest? With around 140 birds working in the nest nowadays, we are extremely fortunate to have an incredible team who possess a wide variety of skills, talents, and interests; who come from all walks of life. We thought it might be nice to share some of these special people and their stories with you.
If you’ve ever visited our beautiful birdsnest store here in Cooma, there is a good chance you’ve met shop bird and dispatch team lead Tracy. If we could convert her energy into watts we’re pretty sure we’d be able to power our whole production; no matter the task or the time of day, if something needs doing, you’ll probably find Tracy has already begun. Born and bred in the Snowies she has a true love for the area, and the people in it! Taking life in one giant stride to most peoples’ two - it helps that her legs extend all the way to her ears - she’s not one to take things for granted and is always on the lookout for ways that she can not only make the most out of her day, but spread joy and kindness to the ones around her. With a smile that lights up a room and a laugh that fills it, we hope you enjoy getting to know a little more about our gal Tracy.

What is your role at birdsnest?
On Monday through Wednesday & every second Saturday, I’m a Shop Bird while Thursday and Friday I’m a Team Support Leader in Dispatch.
What do you love about working in the nest?
Working alongside some amazing, funny shop birds in the store who make the job fun. I love what I do and I love coming in each day. That interaction with customers, providing them with a shopping experience, making them feel welcome with a friendly hello when they walk through the door.
I also work with some amazing dispatch birds making sure we get our customers parcels out. From setting up the orders in picking bays to picking each item from the warehouse and finally taking special care to pack every order and slip in a personalised handwritten note. What an amazing team to meet this deadline with each and every day to ensure our customers receive their bags of treats on time.
What do you love about living and working in rural Australia?
The lifestyle, townships and communities of the Snowy Monaro. I love the wide open spaces, having beautiful seasons and sometimes 4 seasons in one day! The local people of Cooma, which is my home town, where everybody knows everyone and saying hello is so easy. Cooma is the hub of the Snowy Monaro and is equally close to the Mountains, South Coast and Canberra, which is perfect for day trips.
What other jobs or careers have you had?
I’ve only had 3 full-time jobs and casual work before coming across to Birdsnest. I started in Grace Bros Retail and I'm back in the same building now doing what I love - Customer Service/Retail. I spent some time as a Sales Rep at Cooma Monaro Express next and then it was on to The Monaro Post Newspaper as Sales Manager and part owner; something we started 16 years ago with Kylie, Gail, Ollie & I. I have always worked in the hospitality industry too, working at The Cooma Ex-Services Club, Cooma Hotel, and doing private functions with Dizzy Delights. This is something I enjoy doing, being surrounded by people.

Do you have a favourite song, TV series or movie?
The Last Kingdom - OMG Uhtred of Bebbanburg, who wouldn't watch it!
How would you describe your personal style?
We all have personal styles, some different, some the same, some colourful and some unique. For me, if it makes me feel good I just wear it!
A piece of advice you’d give to your younger self?
Work hard and reap the benefits later.
