Mona Farm: Escape To The Country
In a series of the most fortunate events, we recently met a super lovely birdsnest customer, Suzanne Gearing. One Monday, our head of Styling, Sarah Nettleton, returned from a weekend away suggesting her cousin (and “bestie’s”) newly restored property, Mona Farm, as the perfect location for shooting the Autumn Winter 2019 collection for our brand, bird keepers titled "Wherever My Weekend Goes". A glance at the website quickly revealed this breathtaking functions venue in all its glory.
We simply fell in love with the elegant heritage homestead and buildings dating back to the early 1800s. We swooned over its ancient garden, with sky high trees and bewitching paths to get lost in under a canopy of elms. We were seduced by the Monet-style stone bridge spanning a vast lake where the early morning fog lends a romantic, if a little brisk, air.
Meet Suzanne From Mona Farm - A #birdsnestgirl
When Sarah originally asked her friend whether they would consider letting us have access to the grounds and house at Mona Farm to shoot our collection, she immediately said yes and put us in touch with the general manager, Suzanne Gearing.
“Birdsnest? You mean the birdsnest?” cried Suzanne in amazement, when we called her. It turns out she buys most of her clothes from birdsnest - and further, she loves our bird keepers brand. “When you’re looking after a family, like me, and working in a country town, you have limited time and fewer options to shop. I want styles that will look professional, but not too formal, for work, that can also cross into my off-duty time. Bird keepers ticks all these boxes for me.”
We asked Suzanne what her typical day at Mona involves.
“In any given day you can find me talking with the gardener, in the office with customers, attending meetings at council and then setting up or hosting functions at Mona. I love my bird keepers wardrobe as it’s a little bit smart for the day time and I can add a cardi or wrap to amp up the look for the early evening.”
