Let us begin with a mandatory bird/nest/tree analogy... A bird simply can't make it's nest without a tree.
Okay, now that we have that out of the way - we'd like to share with you some news about birdsnest's tree planting efforts with Keep It Cool! For those of you who don't know, Keep It Cool is a not for profit organisation based in Jindabyne, NSW, working toward drawing down carbon from the atmosphere by planting trees. Pretty cool huh?
Since 2020, birdsnest has partnered with Keep It Cool and through our Books For Good Initiative and our Rehatched Vintage Market Day, have raised enough money to plant around 4500 trees. In 2021, the birds rolled up their sleeves and joined Keep It Cool at a property in Myalla, just half an our away from our 'nest' to plant 1000 of these trees. As the tree planting season rolled around again in 2022, we once again donned our trusty red hats to plant another 500 trees at a property just around the from our 'nest'. Once again in 2023 we got to planting and really showed the Keep It Cool team what three years of planting experience looks like to plant 500 more trees back at Myalla!
Take a look at how the birdsnest team faired with a shovel!
Tree Planting 2023
Once again the birds have donned their best planting attire to head back out to Myalla with the task of planting 500 trees! Over two shifts, the flocked to a brand new site and made light work of all the digging, planting and sharing their well wishes to the soon-to-be forest of native trees. Even with a few rocks to dodge and the late autumn heat beating down, our planting team, with now some serious experience under their belt made 500 trees look easy!
Tree Planting 2022
With some dramatic rain clouds looming in the distance, the birdsnest birds joined the Keep It Cool crew to tackle the task of 500 trees. Breaking it up into two shifts, the morning team got to work with their goal, and raced the rain to plant their trees into the beautiful soft ground. After a quick lunch break and some well deserved snacks, the second group took over as the rain began to fall. The rain did not deter them however, and we reached our goal of 500 trees in time to make it back to the nest for more outfit styling and parcel packing!
Tree Planting 2021
Donning their trusty (and stylish) red birdsnest caps, the birdsnest team took shifts planting a variety of native trees overlooking beautiful Monaro scenes in Ngarigo Country.
It was a race against time, with a goal of 1000 holes to dig, 1000 trees to plant and 1000 spots to water - the team certainly had their work cut out for them! It seemed as though however, that our time in the nest, packing parcels, writing code, styling outfits and designing newsletters was all the experience this lot needed to pull it off (with the help of Winnie of course).
